Here are some helpful tips & tricks while traveling with jewelry.
Choose wisely what to take!
First, decide what jewelry you actually will wear, depending on your destination and accommodation some jewels are to avoid.
This is a time to relax and unwind, so leave behind sentimental items or that you don’t want to see broken, lose or stolen.
Like clothes, the trick is to pack light and take only the jewelry you’ll wear while traveling at your destination.
Therefore it’s good to choose jewels that will work with multiple outfits, for most occasions, stick with just a few neutral pieces, like a small pendant, small stud earrings or hoops, a chain-link bracelet.
And bring on the funny looks, too! They’ll dress up even your most basic travel outfit.
Pack them the right way!
So, you have decided what jewelry to bring and are ready to pack up…
No matter how careful you are jewelry can be damaged, so how will they ever make it tangle-free, clean and organized to your destination?
Consider these methods for packing jewelry for your vacation.
Travel jewelry case: If you travel frequently, a travel case made specifically for jewelry is a good investment. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but a good travel jewelry case will have compartments to keep your individual jewelry items both organized and free from tangles and scratches.
Straws: Keep necklace chains tangle-free by slipping one end through a drinking straw. If you have a chunky necklace or two in the mix, follow the same process using a toilet paper tube.
Buttons: This trick works to keep earring pairs together for travel and also at home. When you’re packing for a trip, put the buttons you want to take in a small ziplock bag, sealable cup or wrap them in a small cloth for added protection.
Daily pill box: They have the perfect size for storing earrings, rings, and even small bracelets and necklaces. By putting in a box, jewelry stays tangle-free and organized. And since the boxes are connected, you have all your jewelry in one place.
Ziplock bags: Put one jewelry item in each ziplock bag to keep things organized and prevent tangling and tarnishing. Then drop all the little plastic bags into a larger ziplock bag for travel.
Small sealable snack cups: These are a great size for storing individual necklaces, bracelets or earrings, or a collection of earring-pair wrapped in a small cloth or inserted in buttons.
Index/play cards: Keep earrings organized and easy-to-find by inserting it on holes and sealing the backs, necklaces and bracelets by making small cuts to grip it. Wrap a cloth around the card then pack it with the rest of your jewelry.
Jewelry Pouch: Put one jewelry item in each jewelry pouch to keep things organized or combine with other jewelry hacks given above to keep all together. There are great handmade jewelry pouches with separate pockets, go find them!
Jewelry Rolls: With various straps and pockets for each piece of jewelry, your bracelets, necklaces and earrings will be kept safe with no worry of breakage. Just roll it up and place in your suitcase. There are stunning handmade rolls, go look for them!
Travel towel: Similar to jewelry rolls, arrange your jewelry on a travel towel and then roll it, tie the and with hair elastic ties.
Keep it Safe!
Your jewelry are all packed and you are finally ready to close your bags before you do that here are some tips your you to take before and after leaving home.
Make a list: Leave one copy at home of the jewelry you are taking, and bring other copy with you, storing it separately from your jewelry bag.
Take pictures: Or record your jewelry on video, separated and on you. Do this with all jewels you have, it will serve for future reference.
Insure it: Make sure insurance policy provides coverage on travels and also the destination where you’re traveling to, otherwise, it is better to leave jewelry at home. Before you leave, have a current appraisal done on your jewelry and then, have your insurance coverage adjusted accordingly.
Carry it on: Never put jewelry in checked baggage. Instead, wear it or stow it in your carryon bag and keep the best at the very bottom of your purse.
You don’t want anyone to hit the honey hole, so it’s good to separate them.
If you wear it, take extra care by slipping a pendant inside a sweater or turning your ring so only the band shows. The motto is “travel to see not to be seen!”
Always carry it personally and use personal pouches to keep it safe, if necessary, and keep it with you at all times.
Use the safe: Always store jewelry in the in-room safe when you’re not wearing it. It’s what the safe is for. For higher-ticket items ask to use the hotel’s safe-deposit box which is often more secure, then the safe located in your room.
As I said before the most expected time has come… you are going to travel!!!
You are all set to relax and create new good memories… have fun!
